Lakewood - anyone still school-less?

Because I personally know of families in other communities who had a hard time getting kids into school as well. At least in Lakewood there is a Vaad that is specifically set up to help.
Go find out for yourself what it is like in Monsey when you have no money, no pull, and no school!!!

A Proud Lakewood Amother

Be proud if coming from a town that has a Vaad that has to be subservient to sick controlling people... That as of now has over a hundred children not in school and there is nothing being done about it. Go bury your head in the sand and keep being proud of a place that has values so messed up they can't recognize it...

Look, there is a big problem of space in Lakewood. There simply are not enough seats for all the incoming students and classes and schools are being opened left and right to alleviate the problem.
Now here is where it gets tough.
A new school is opened and parents don't want to send. The want to send to an "establlished school". Look I can understand that. But someone is going to have to send there. And that someone may be you. And if you hold your kid out till Chanukah and get into an established school, then next year there will be 50 families doing the same thing. The Vaad needs to be strong and the schools need to say no for the sake of your sister, your neighbor, and your friend. We NEED these new schools!

What happened in the past is that kids stayed home till Chanukah not in school... No, parents in the situation now know that there is very little happening to resolve the situation...

Proud Lakewood amother in Monsey it is not as bad. I have tons of family in Monsey and there has never been a story of a child home until Chanukah and no school caring. It might be hard to get into school in Monsey but the sickness and callousness of what goes on in Lakewood is unheard of. It's a power struggle in Lakewood.

And yes I had a hard time getting into schools in Lakewood until they found out whot relative was. My husband wanted to get in on his own merit and didn't believe we wouldn't get in on our own right away. The schools thought we Weren't a good fit for them until they found out who our relative was and suddenly every school wanted us.

What does that say about this sick disgusting town that calls themselves a yeshiva town.

And if the rabbonim really cared they won't sleep until all children are in school. And they won't let this happen very single year.

Yes, you do need to do what is best for your child. So do it. And if that means keeping your kid home till Chanukah, or homeschooling, or calling and nudging every day, yes, you are the parent and you have to do what is best for your child. And if you know that your child absolutely wont succeed in school A or B then dont send them.
But how many parents did not want to send to the new school, but were forced to and are now so happy that they are there. and how many great schools with no room were not so many years ago not desirable at all. after all they were new.

The vaad is there to help. and they do an admirable thankless job.

and they help ensure thosands of kids placement in schools.

and they back new schools,

and they help set up additional classes.

No, it is not a sick town at all.

Its all about money. Amother just promise money and then don't deliver. It will be too late and the school won't kick you out then. I know a few people who did this.

That's why now some schools only accept through an established person promising the money so that the school has who to go back to to get the money from established person.

You hear people say I offered money and the school still didn't accept my child. It's because the school didn't think that this person would pay up.

I moved to Lakewood a few years ago, after schools promised to take my kids in. One DD and one DS got in after three months. Another DS after 6 months. No matter who my DH went to speak to, it didnt make a difference. Fast forward years later, my DS who was out of cheder for 6 months? is now a 16 yo working bochur because yeshiva life isnt cut out for him. I blame the Lakewood system for not giving the kids a chance. When a yeshiva tells a kid, you dont need to be in a school, then its very obvious to the child that they really dont need to be in school/yeshiva.

This is the message that Lakewood Ihr Hatorah/yeshiva town teaches.

but when you have lots and lots of ppl moving to lakewood for affordable housing, you can't complain that the schools are supposed to take you in cuz it's a yeshiva town and cohesive community.
