Unbelievable, the kind of luck we are having. Just 3 months out of warranty, our large standalone freezer door fell off when my 7-year-old opened it, Baruch Hashem it didn't hit her in the head! Frigidaire will pay for the part but not the labor, and we are having trouble getting a repairman to come before next week. That is another several hundred dollars worth of food that is going bad, plus the cost of repairs. This happened last year before Pesach which is why we replaced our old freezer when the compressor went. I just don't understand why Hashem needs to test us financially when we are already being tested with serious illness. I just want to cry.

sometimes you can find repair guidance for your appliance model on-line ... so if they're sending the parts perhaps it's a doable fix ... as for the food ... [and I know this may be a little too late] get koolers and ice packs to keep things cold - like one would do whilst camping ...

sorry for the extra agmas nefesh ... I feel the headache ~ gosharuni At wits end

First of all, just wanted to let you all know that Kayla Rus is celebrating her Jewish (2 Av) birthday today, she is now 16! Every milestone means the world, as you know. She wants to give you all a bracha for health, happiness, parnossah, and peace of mind.

Thank you to all of you who had advice about the freezer, and a special thank you to one of our wonderful members who happens to live in my neighborhood and whose husband, in construction, sent workers over to fix the door. It has been holding up beautifully, and things only got a little melty, but nothing spoiled and it's all frozen now.

Thank you also for the generous donations. I dream of the day when we can get out of debt and be donors rather than recipients, and every little bit helps. I know that having enough to be able to help others is a big responsibility, and I am telling Hashem with you all as my witness that I will work very hard to live up to the challenge if He sees fit to dig us out of the hole!

Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes and cute virtual cakes!

Today happens to be my husband's hebrew birthday (when Kayla Rus was born 16 years ago he got his present just 2 hours early!). For those of you who have asked me privately, he is still not back to normal after his brain bleed, but his reading has very slow, tiny improvements. He is long overdue to get another scan, but we parents always seem to come last. And he spends most of his "free" time visiting his Mom in rehab after she got spacers in to replace a botched hip replacement and clear out an infection. She is Chana Freidel bas Sorah. As soon as she is ready, they will repeat the hip replacement and hopefully these new doctors will get it right.

Thanks again to all of you for being such a great emotional support!

So another birthday milestone was today (August 5), Kayla Rus' English Sweet 16. Silly in a way to count every milestone, but we have had to learn not to take any for granted, so why not focus on each one? So I bought a power ball for this week, what a nice present if Hashem would see fit to let us win! Daven for us, hey, you never know.

Thanks so much, there is nothing really new to report on her condition, as she needs a few more rounds of the new chemo before we can scan to see if it is working. She is otherwise doing ok, with typical ups & downs. Headed to Chai Lifeline's Camp Simcha this week & next.

You got it! That's my whole reason for wanting to win (besides getting out of debt, of course), to be able to give back and help everyone else rather than having to ask for help!
Cool

Kayla Rus is on another round now, with a little drug-juggling to keep her blood counts up. So just another week in the chemo grind... yesterday I had just settled in at the hospital for a long day, went to boot up my laptop, and the motherboard was dead. (Today I am on a borrowed laptop from the transfusion center at the hospital.) It was an old model laptop (Averatec 2370) and they don't make these motherboards anymore. Thing is, for my special dj program I like to use when I teach Israeli dance, I need an XP laptop, and this one was small & lightweight, with a 12-inch screen. So just another nuisance on top of everything else. It is a longshot, but I really need to replace my laptop for when I start teaching dance again, so I wanted to ask around here, if anyone is looking to get rid of a small, light, XP laptop (but not a netbook, as I need to be able to edit videos & such), I would be eternally grateful!

On a more serious note, I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread for this, but I just wanted to ask for tehillim for my dear friend Esther bas Tsiporah. After a 3-month remission from colon cancer that had metastasized to the liver & lung (and this after being completely clean for 6 years!), her remission is over and her cancer is active again. We are so devastated. This is the friend who drove me to the hospital at midnight after my husband's brain bleed, so she is a good friend there at a moment's notice, and it is an all-too-vivid reminder, when Kayla Rus has yet to even achieve a remission after all this time, that even once remission happens it is so tenuous. Very scary and depressing. Having a hard time keeping the faith these days. Little annoyances like technical equipment malfunctioning are kept well in perspective, while at the same time, they are the icing on the cake of "life is just too hard."

Shana Tovah to all my good friends on here, may this be the year of good health and functioning technology, and may Moshiach come and make it all irrelevant. Cool

Thank you! And as for peckel on top of peckel, I should probably mention that my husband has a very bad infection in his leg, it is all blown up. It started from a small cut. This has happened before (due to his poor leg circulation) and last time it took a very long time to get better. His antibiotics aren't working, and he is going back to the internist tomorrow. He also has to schedule new brain scans to find out why he hasn't recovered his reading ability more than they predicted by now. So please remember Binum Binyamin Tuvia ben Chana Freidel, and also his mom Chana Freidel bas Sorah who is waiting to reschedule her hip replacement. (She had a botched job several months ago, which they had to remove due to severe infection and it will be redone as soon as they can confirm that her infection is still cleared up.) Sigh. We are all due for good news.
