I was at first annoyed b/c he must have thought I was a shiksa. ( Not flattering, IMO.)

Then, when I asked, I was told he shouldn't have sat next to ANY lady.

Surely he didn't think I was a man! So, I let it go - perhaps he had stood a lot that morning, or some such . . . it wasn't abot me,by any means.

maybe he just did not know that halacha. but wait, I have a question, if there is no other seat at all, I know you said there was, but lets say another situation, lets say there was no seat other than near a woman, he should be allowed to sit, right?

Why can't a man sit next to one lady if you're not touching?

when your on a subway there is a high chance of rubbing sholders backs against people especially during peek hours. but sometimes it cant be avoided, youll have no choice and bump into a person, or rub sholders cause there is no room...

Halachas only apply to Jews.
Actually, morality is one of the seven Noachide Laws, and general tznius could be a branch of that.

I have noticed that even non-Jewish men do not rush to sit down next to women on the train. I can usually find seats next to another woman, and when there are a few empty seats, the non-Jewish man who wants to sit usually will leave at least one seat in between. if there isn't any, most men remain standing! Nobody wants to share part of a seat with someone of opposite gender!(this is in my experience, can't speak for anyone else, but I find it quite interesting. )

Most of the time, I see people hurrying to sit next to the skinny people (female or male) on the train. This way they have more room. LOL I'm serious.

What does payment have to do with it? Should seniors not get a full seat since they pay a reduced fare?

their is a law that a man can not sit between two women .

nope
it says a man cannot walk between two women
a woman cannot walk between two men

and nothing about a man sitting next to a woman or vice versa

if you think otherwise, please quote the source

There might be nothing halachikally wrong with it but I can tell you I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting next to a man on a luvseat.
