Shabbos Day Side Dishes

I am always stumped what to make as side dishes for the second course on shabbos because most side dishes that I make dont taste good cold. Any ideas of side dishes that could work shabbos day?

you don't use a hot plate?

I put potato kugel into the chulent (wrap in wax paper if you want it not to get lost), warm deli roll on hot plate or on top of chulent pot, warm sweet potato pie, apple crisp, zuchinni kugel...

As long as these things are warm they are ok- don't have to be really hot.

apple cobbler is a good one, usually no leftovers!
broccoli kugel, nudel kugel, cucumber salad, coleslaw, avacado/tomato salad, lots of different choices of salads

I usually make a ton of salads as side dishes. They are fine served cold. But if I do make kugels, I usually stick them on top of the crock pot in the morning so they are "warm" by the time we eat lunch. Have you husband do it before he leaves for shul if you are sleeping.

I usually have a potato kugel in teh cholent
and an apple-betty pie or apple-cranberry kugel served at room temperature.
somteimtes I serve grilled vegetables at room temperature.

forgot to add on..
thats as well as a lettuce salad.
tomato salad is also great for the daytime.

For Shabbos mornings, I usually make a ceaser salad with diced turkey inside to go alongside the cholent. Its not heavy and VERY good!

I recently tried this and it was a huge success, even with my dh who is not a big veggie eater. Sautee a big onion (diced), 2 carrots (diced), 1 pepper (best to use red for color, but I used green, it's fine), 1 big/2 small zucchini(s) cubed and half an eggplant (cubed). Add salt, pepper (and any other spices you like) and tomatoe/marinara sauce. Sautee until it's basically a mush - spread like consistency (about 20-30 in). It's yumm, and especially good cold.

Chinese noodles taste great cold.

Recipe:
mix together hot angel hair pasta with soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and hot sauce. Sprinkle on some sesame seeds.

Things that taste ok/good cold: (I'm not a huge fan of half warmed kugel, they have got eggs in and one bout of food poisening is quite enough for me!)

creamy broccoli kugel (spice and spirit)
sweet lokshen kugel with apples or pineapple, (ditto)
breadcrumbed and fried eggplant slices
sweet potatoe pie
cole slaw
mushroom knishes
roast beef (yum)

that's a great suggestion.
I always make that as a side dish for shabbos day if we are having guests. It taste great cold! Other then that I would just serve a lot of salads such as cucumber salad, green leafy salad, cole slaw etc

My prob with serving salads as side dishes is that I always have a big appetizer-salad course ,and so I dont feel like serving more salads with the 2nd course...?

What do you all do Confused

some ideas for cold side dishes:

-roasted red peppers drizzled with olive oil
-roasted root veggies (kosher palette 1)
-anything baked in a pie crust-sweet potato, brocolli, zuchini...
-any rice-type salad meant to be served cold
-hot dogs in blankets..not very healthy but fun to eat!

Thank you for the idea. It tasts so good also I put in scallions and red peppers it looks really pretty.

how funny that this pasta salad has so many variations. I have given this recipe to so many people. I'll post it here for people who want a recipe.

1 lb. Pasta
1 bunch scallions
snow peas

Dressing:
6 Tblspns Tamari
4 Tblspns Toasted Sesame Oil
2 Tblspns Hot Pepper Sesame Oil
2 Tblspns Brown Rice Vinegar
½ cup Sesame seeds
2 Tblspns Sugar
Raw Cashews

Line platter with baby spinach and/or basil

Cook pasta, toss with chopped scallions.
Mix half of the dressing with the pasta and snow peas.
Pour remaining dressing on top.
Decorate with peppers.
