It's funny that you're asking now. On Friday nigh dh and I were discussing it cuz we were talking about a certain private file I made for him and I put a password on it. He is real computer savvy otherwise, so he was wondering how it is that he doesn't know how to do it.
so much for men thinking they could do everything. lol.
ne way:
When you do Save As, on the right you'll see Tools - it's a dropdown list. Choose Security Options from that list and you're in business.

on the file menu click tools, slide to options and click the tab marked security
you can create a password to open the document and also to modify it

Thanks so much, what a relief to finally be able to password my documents! Tho my computer is passworded, and kids cannot do a thing with computer without me entering the password, once they're on, working on their own word documents, I hate to think they could so easily click on my docs and spill the beans.....Not any more!

it's not too hard to crack the code, don't get too excited about it.

I worked at a place that employed a lot of temps. One had been made permanent and then was fired.
She proceeded to password protect many of the documents we used each day, then she put a screen saver on the desktop that she knew the boss especially hated.
It was easy to bypass, but still!

yes, but you have to make it a compressed (zipped) folder first
right click on the desktop (or in a folder) and choose zipped (compressed) folder. Put in it anything you want. Double click on the folder and go to File, add a password
