I usually make my gefilte fish with sugar and carrots and boil it on the stove. Has anyone ever tried to make gefile fish with brown sugar? I ran out of white sugar and cant to go out to get some now.
Thanks!

I also ran out of white sugar today and didn't want to leave stuff for tomorrow so I boiled the water with salt, pepper and demerara sugar. It tasted fine!

If you're using store bought gefilte fish, the fish has sugar in it already, and there is no need to add more. I actually bake mine with spices, and it still has sweetness....

for one roll of fish about 1/4 cup honey.
I dice up 1 onion, put in honey, 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. black pepper and let it caramalize on medium flame for a few minutes. then I add water, a carrot. and bring to a boil. then add fish. lower flame and cook 1 1/2 hours.
