Canned chick peas taste?

Most chummus recipes call for canned chick peas. I find the taste of the canned ones very strong and overpowering, like a very heavy bean taste. The store bought prepared hummus don't have a strong bean taste. What's the secret? Any tips?

I think certain companies taste better than others.

do you drain the liquid from the canned chick peas, and rinse the peas very well? that's essential IMO.
also, Goya makes great canned chick peas.

Thanks. Do you need to peel off the outer shell of each bean? Also, what hechsher does Goya have?

No, I don't peel off the outer peel.
The Goya canned beans have an OU hechsher IIRC.

Make sure you rinse carefully, also get the no salt added ones for the closest to fresh taste.

If you have some time I have a recipe for cooking the raw chickpeas in the crockpot and then making chummus out of them.
