Okay, on Sunday, we are driving four hours to NYC for a family event, and then 4 hours home the same day. Can we play music for our 3 y/o in the car? I mean, kids music. What do I say to my husband to tell him it's okay?

Yes. Tell him that listening to uncle moishy for 8the hours is mamish an affliction and will certainly cause him to yearn for the geula so that he can enjoy the singing of the leviim instead.

Even if you sing along, kids tapes are rarely "enjoyable!"

Uncle moishy, kivi and tukki, 613 torah avenue, rebbi alter, etc are sooo annoying after 3 songs...its definitely ok.

It's the week of tisha b'av, which is more strict. what about earphones so the child can listen by himself ?

It's actually NOT the week of 9Av, as 9Av is nidche and motzaei Shabbat; there is no "shavua shechal bo" this year.

I'd consider a cappella in your circumstance, like the new Maccabeats' album Out of the Box. Be warned that it sounds amazing, though.

Not from what we learned. Friday is Erev Tisha B'av. Shabbos is Tisha B'Av. This is the week of Tisha B'Av. We don't fast on Shabbos; but we can't learn all day.

When we asked (couple of years ago) we were told that music can be turned on for the kids. I try to wait till they ask for it but I'm not sure if that's necessary. I don't see how Shavua sheChal bo is different in this.

Maybe you can buy story tapes for them to listen to. Those can be even more helpful because they need to pay close attention to follow the story line and don't have time to kvetch.

edit: I just read your child is 3 - may be to young for some story tapes, unless you can find pre-school level tapes, but maybe this suggestion will help others.
