my daugter has had a few boils on the back of her knee a few times now. the dr gave me antibiotic cream previously which I had left so I use d that this time but it still seemed to be getting worse.

I decided to take her backto the dr and I mentioned that as I am diabetic and I know I suffer with boils from time to time that I felt a bit concerned that it may be diabetise.

the dr gave me a urine test strip and told me to go home and dip it into a very wet nappy and said in the unlikely event that it goes green it would mean she had glucose in her water I should bring her straight back.

well I tested the nappy and the strip went green

I nearly had a heart attack

I was hysterical

I phoned my drs surgery who was just about to close and they saw I was so upset that I should come in.

the dr sent me straight to accident and emergency to see the pediatrician.

we still waited quite along time even though he had spocken to them about me.

they tested her blood sugar and thank gd it was fine. and then we had to try and get a urine sample from my 18 month old which was fun. poor thing was soooo tired she just wanted to go to sleep.

eventualay we got a sample and borach hashem it was clear.

the ped said that the nappy has starch in it and thats why it gave positive results.

but she said I was wise to chase it up as if any child came in with boils they would check for sugar. they lanced the boil and let us go home

That is scary. I guess the Dr didn't realise the nappy would have that affect.

Phew atleast it was only a scare!
My son when was 4 yrs old had a lump as big as a small bouncy ball in his cheek.
We were sooo scared thinking it was goodness knows what. shock
We took him to the ped who tested it and said it was a gland that held water in.
He pierced it and drained the water!!
Phew don't ask what we thought it was?! shock
The Dr told us this happens to some kids when they have colds etc And a way to tell if the lump is something to worry about or not is doeas it move slightly or is it stationary, his moved Confused
