I've been a preschool special ed teacher for over 5 years now. I've had, in my opinion, more than my fare share of the "off-the-wall" kids--somehow I always get the hyper/sensory kids. I've had quite a few difficult kids be it Autistic spectrum, behavioral, pica, MR, Down's Syndrome--I've had it all. Right now I have one student that is really testing my patience and I am really starting to lose it. I've been working very closely with my supervisors, my school psychologist, social worker, etc. to work with this kid. He is almost 5, he is aggressive, defiant, attention seeking, he is strong, curses, uses bathroom words, bothers the other kids, disturbs them during nap time. He has recently turned his behavior up a notch to include destroying other kids projects, taking a scissors to objects in the classroom, attempting to throw blocks (the big ones). We've tried ignoring as much as possible, I've had to restrain him a number of times because he tries to hurt others--even myself. What makes matters more complicated is that I'm b"H expecting and I just don't have the stamina to deal with him. My school is trying to be supportive, we're trying to increase his counseling, get him a 1:1 para etc. But I just feel so helpless with this kid, and I don't want to get hurt, or lose my job because of something he does.

Yes. I'm actually also a school psychology student, so I do have a background in how to do an FBA. What we know so far is that he is "attention seeking". If he's not getting attention, he does whatever he can to get the attention. However, he is resorting to dangerous behaviors that we cannot ignore--attempting to throw objects in the classroom, taking scissors, hitting, climbing on furniture. We do our best to ignore the non-dangerous behavior. This child is becoming so exhausting both physically and emotionally.

Have you had CPI training? with expecting - you do not want to place yourself or baby in harms way.

What is his diagnosis? Extreme EI (emotionally impaired)? ASD? RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder?) Social Conduct Disorder?

How is he at home? He sounds desperate for a five-year-old.
