Dear Polite,

It's refreshing to hear that the younger generation is concerned with social graces and appropriate business conduct. When you prepare to leave your job for the evening, there is a wrong way and a right way to do it.

WRONG: "Woohoo! Five o'clock! I am OUTTA HERE! Later, clowns!"

RIGHT: "Please excuse me, it's five o'clock and I must leave to catch my train home. See you tomorrow at nine o'clock sharp!"

It's extra nice if you offer to take the mail down on your way out, and don't forget to push in your chair.

Clean out your office, get rid of anything your replacement won't need, including your dying potted plant and the 432 packets of takeout soy sauce in the desk, and don't let the door slam on your way out.

You can also check the expiration date but make sure to note that in NYC the sell by date is earlier than other states so it may last longer than the date... I think smelling would be another indicator last option is taste... But I don't recommend that one.
