I thought you only do a pidyon haben if its your first pregnancy.....

depends on when the mis happened. It has to be passed a certain point to be considered a birth, Pidyon haben is done on peter rechem, the one who opens the womb, which means first birth not first pregnancy.

bas cohen here.

otherwise we would've made one.

Someone told my mom it was a shame because you miss out on a party. And that some ppl just make a party anyway, so as not to feel bad. shock

Anyway, just as a sidenote, it is pretty rude to ask imho why there wasn't a pidyon haben. It's no one's business if a person has a mis or c-section.

In our family (siblings and myself) we made 7 out of 11. 2 had girls first, 1 had a c-section, and the other is a kohen.

Yep we made one! Also at the pidyon we brought an extra set of coins and my fil redeemed himself too. He is not religious but it was a very emotional experience. DH redeemed himself at a mass pidyon for baalei teshuvah when he was a teenager. Also both his grandfathers had a pidyon in the former USSR. It was pretty amazing!
So looks like we have a family history of naturally born firstborn males

Was this aimed at me, for starting the thread, or are you referring to the general practice of asking someone personally?
I agree that it is wrong to ask a new mother why there is no pidyon as it can be uncomfortable for them. 100% - I make it my business not to ask why. But I thought this thread was pretty harmless - no one is making you answer and if you just vote it's completely anonymous.

Nope... it was a girl!

Husband is a Levi so even if it would have been a boy it wouldn't have happened.

My neighbors are a kohein married to a bas levi who had a girl born via C-section as her first. If she was a member, what should she choose? Smile

What I wonder is, if the first born is a girl via c-section and the second one is a boy vbac would that qualify for a pidyan?

Has anyone had this situation?

No, it would not.

I know many people in this position. None had a pidyon.
