Sure. Take ground chicken, add oats (like oatmeal), chopped onions, garlic and a bit of mustard and soy sauce for taste. dip in flour. fry or bake. meanwhile sautee onions and mushrooms with spices in a saucepan, add water to make a gravy and add the meatballs and sautee. Comes out great.

I usually chop up an onion and put it in a bowl with ground beef. Add breadcrumbs or matzomeal and add different spices like garlic, paprika, pepper, salt, red pepper flakes, mix it all together and form them into balls. set them on a greased pan and bake at 350 for half an hour or so until they look done.

I sometimes do non-tomato "gravy".
Don't have exact measurement, but finely chop (best done with a food processor)
2 large or 3 medium carrots, 1 onion, 1 stalk celery (optional). Sautee in a big
pot with 1 tbsp oil, salt & pepper for about 15min till carrots/onions are cooked (they turn
more yellowish rather than orangeish). Then I add about 2-3 cups of water, 1-2
teasp of parve chicken soup or onion soup powder. Check the seasoning--you can add
paprika or soysauce or honey (if you want it sweeter). I usually drop the uncooked
meatballs and cook the whole thing for about about 45min. Good to fool the kiddies
about eating veggies, you can add other chopped veggies like zucchini or red peppers.

I have a recipe for Tunesian meatballs and chickpeas which is quite different and very good. PM me if you want it (so I see the request).
Tunesian Meat Balls
2.5 cups chick peas
5 Tablespoons water
1 kilo (2.2 lb) chopped meat (beef or lamb or mixed)
1 cup bread crumbs
3 Tablespoons chopped parsley
dash of nutmeg
salt and pepper to taste
2 large eggs, slightly beaten
oil for frying
5 chopped onions
5 chopped tomatoes
2 Tablespoons chopped parsley
1 teaspoon salt
dash of saffron
dash of cinnamon
dash of pepper
Soak the chickpeas overnight and then cook gently until almost soft (about 2 hours). Mix the meat, breadcrumbs, parsley, nutmeg, salt, pepper, egg and water. Form the mixture into balls and brown in the oil. Remove the meat and fry the chopped onions, then the tomatoes. Put the meat, vegetables, chickpeas and seasonings into a pot. Close and simmer until chickpeas are ready.

Our family doesn’t like any tomato sauce based foods. I drop the meatballs into a crockpot that has a flavorful base of sautéed onions, garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook potatoes in the same pot for a crockpot dinner.

Here's my super-easy recipe
Put cut up celery and onions on the bottom of a big pot, and saute in oil for a few minutes. Form meatballs, and lay them on top. Peel and cut up potatoes, put them in the pot. Cover with water and soup mix, or soup stock. Simmer gently until potatoes are soft and meat is cooked. Very mild, and very yummy!

Ingredients
* 1 pounds ground beef
* 1 cup bread crumbs
* 2 eggs, beaten
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

I guess if you dont like ketchup you can leave out. You can sub for bbq sauce.
Mix all ing together.
Pour the following ing into a pot.
* 1 (16 ounce) can jellied cranberry sauce
* 2 tablespoons brown sugar
* 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Bring to a boil and then take the meat mixture and make balls. Drop into pot and cook for abt 45 minutes.

Enjoy! | Hey, I love ketchup and barbecue sauce as much as the next person, but not everyone can eat those tomato based products.
Thanks for the recipe! Since the ketchup is only in the meat mixture, I am sure I can omit it or substitute it with a non tomato product.
