"How to get DH on board?"
(So many possibilities for immediate reactions...)
1. Try reaching under his back with one arm, and his knees with your other arm, and carefully lift him up and onto the board. (Don't forget to bend your knees so you don't hurt your back!!)
2. Do you have any connections with any of the other members, or better yet, the chairman? Try putting in a good word for him.
3. If it's really important to you that your husband learn to surf, maybe tell him that he can try a few sample lessons and quit after that if he's still afraid of the water.
