As of now, my children use disposable paper/plastic dinnerware because I don't want them to break our dishes, especially our shabbos china. Are there any real dishes that I can buy that is safe for kids, and less prone to breaking? I was thinking of buying melamine dishes, but then I read that there's a problem with toxicity. Any ideas?

We also decided to stop using so many paper plates and plastic cups.
I bought pink plastic plates in a heart shape in 2 different sizes for the girls, and some bright green round ones for my son. We use these for dairy. I also bought them green and pink plaastic bowls for cereal. I bought them at Wal-mart. They were only 50 cents to 1 dollar for each piece, depending on the size. Our regular dairy dishes are quite breakable, so we really don't want the kids using them.

We have corelle for our everyday meat meals. We just decided to let the kids use them. We went to a corelle outlet a bought matching plastic cups in 3 different sizes. The small ones are perfect for the kids.
At the corelle outlet, we also purchased plastic cups that go well with our dairy dishes and the plastic bowls and dishes the kids use.

So far, so good....and we aren't throwing away tons of paper and plastic each day!

It was getting crazy by us as well with all the plastics we were throwing out- cups, plates, bowls, cutlery.....I ended up buying really cute plastic plates from target- maybe $1 each they are small- but not too small- sometimes I will use it for my husband and self. They are really durable- my kids will throw them in the sinks (can't reach the sink) have dropped on the floor and no cracks or anything.

I got small plastic cups by IKEA- they had the smallest oones plus each cup is adifferent color so each kid knows which is his/her cup.

Bowls were hard to find, becuase I wanted ones that were not too big- my kids pour themselves cereal and the younger ones pour to the top of the bowl no matter how big hte bowl is. SO I got ones that were way too big and we wasted a lot of cereal then I finally found them sold in target- I think 8 sold for $2 together -they are all the best- my younger kids use those and older ones use the ones I got from Ikea. Plus all these plastics are dishwasher safe- and microwave safe too, I think.
