Can you put a full chicken in a crockpot? Will it cook? Do you put the veggies, underneath or above?

How long should I cook it for?

Yes you can.
Do not add liquid.
Spice it very well, inside and out. Under the skin as well if you can. (Then you can stuff the cavity with fresh garlic, onions, lemons, whatever, if you'd like.)
Place it breast down in the crockpot. (Some liquid from the chicken will pool at the bottom, so breast should be face down.)
Cover and cook.

I do this fairly often for Shabbos. Friday morning, I'll put the chicken breast side down, add whatever sauce I want and let it cook on low for 6-8 hours. I try to baste it every 1-2 hours. Cook a pot of rice for a side dish and that's most of Shabbos dinner right there.

It doesn't fall apart if you don't add liquid to the crockpot. It comes out great.

How long should it cook on high? Thanks!

Forgot to add that rubbing the chicken with olive oil before spicing it is nice.

I do this all the time, depending on the size of the slowcooker I've even done 2 birds side by side. This way they don't get lonely. Very Happy

I usually add liquid when making for shabbos and end up with yummy, flavorful chicken stew. My secret? Lotsa garlic! Yum!

It was delicious! Of course, DH ended up having to work late so it sat on warm for awhile in there and did end up falling apart, but that just meant that no one had to carve it Very Happy I'm totally leaving my crock pot on and making this during Shavuos.

Now I am going to make soup from the leftovers! Thanks!!
