On Sunday, I got word that a distant relative had committed suicide Erev Shabbos. This man had been troubled all of his life. The non-frum next of kin family members had decided to cremate the body. Part of this was because they believed that he wanted this and secondly, he left no money for burial expenses. I wanted to speak up on behalf of kosher burial, but my siblings urged be to stay out of it. My husband said that it reminded him of the Nazis (may their memory be erased) and my son wanted me to try to have the halacha followed. I finally called an Orthodox shul in that area and arranged burial. The body was still being checked by the coroner so this bought time. I then got the nerve to call the family, who I had rarely spoken to, and told them about the burial that I had arranged. Less than an hour ago, this Jew was buried in an Orthodox cemetary and they arranged a minyon to do mais mitzvah.
What does that say about trying to do a mitzvah when the odds are stacked against it?

That's wonderful. I think the lesson is that you have to try to do what's right and leave the rest up to Hashem.

southern bubby, when I read your posts your giving nature just shines right through!
it seems like ur always thinking of others & helping other ppl & even when u won a million dollars u give it to your grandkids!
You restore belief that there are decent people in this world.
What an amazing mitzva you did & you didn't even listen to all the people opposing you (siblings & family)- you have a really strong character to be able to stand up against everyone.
inspiring...
