whoever told you that is lying. Washing more often is better for the hair, and cap as oil and residue left for awhile slowly breaks down the knots and foundation.

My weekday depends on how well I take care of it. If I put it rollers often and it stays pretty well, about 3 months, sometimes 2. My shabbos is about three times a year unless it (and I) gets stuck in the rain.

I don't know you or your credentials. I DO know my sheital machers and their training, and I'm going to go with them over you. I've heard it more than once. Less is better.

I was told not to wash them to often as well. So whenever it starts to look oily/shvach.
My weekday one ( I wear it to work and thats about it) I have washed 2 times since I got married (8 months) and its about due for another wash.
My shabbos I have washed twice as well- once myself. I went to a few weddings and danced and it was gross gross gross.
Back in the old days I used to say cant wait till I get married and my hair that I spent 45 min on doesnt get ruined at weddings. Instead its the hair that I spend $$ on and I cant just take a shower and get rid of the ich.

You're in good company. Well, I wouldn't call my Shevy garbage, but I am far from thrilled about it. I wash mine at least once a month.

If you wear it at all, it needs to be washed once a month to 6 weeks. Subway traveling=once a month. CM, would you wear clothes for 4 months straight and not wash them??? Question

Clothing isn't a sheital. And that's what the sheital machers near me say.

Listen, if you want to wash it more, so wash it more. Just don't expect it to have a long life, that's all.

anyway, I have 4 sheitals, bh.

Right, clothing isn't a shaitel. A shaitel covers your hair & scalp, where 25% of body heat is lost. So, in the summer, that holds true as well, and I imagine 25% body shvitz goes to your shaitel. Yuck. So, in that sense, a shaitel is more like underwear.

In my experience as a shaitelmacher, the ladies who wash their customs every month have shaitels that last longer. I have seen 10 year old wigs look like 3 year old ones because of that.

I don't know from where your sheitel macher is taking this. But I never heard about this, not from my teacher or at a show.

But... the color comes out after many washes and that depends on the quility of the die and the hair.

And I rather have a fresh wig than a fresh dry cleaned suit. (unless its dirty)
