Here is a 'recipe' for washing ur wig at home from username EARNEST!!
IM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS BEC I HATE RUNNING TO SHEITEL MACHERS ALL THE TIME ESPECIALLY IN THIS WEATHER!

OK I'll pretend it's a 'recipe'. Ingredients: Canvas head, styrofoam head, clamp for 'heads', wide-tooth comb, brush, de-tangle spray, shampoo, conditioner, towels, a sink or bathtub.
[font=Arial]Place wig on canvas head. Use de-tangle spray and comb/brush out knots. Gently. Don't tug. Place wig on styrofoam head and pin (T-pins) by the ear-flaps. Wet the wig with water under faucet or spray, using soothing stokes from crown of wig to the ends. Don't rough it up or stroke in the wrong direction. Put some shampoo on your hands, smooth the shampoo into wig, stroke it through to obtain 'suds'. Rinse out shampoo by placing wig/wig head under running water, stroke out the suds, gently squeeze ends, add more shampoo (a little), get more suds, rinse again, squeeze excess water out gently. (All this time keep wig on styrofoam head) Put a bit of conditioner on your hands, stay away from the cap/crown, stoke a bit of conditioner on the middle and ends of hair, wait 3 minutes, place wig under running water and remove most (not all) of conditioner. The texture should be silky hair, not sqeaky-clean hair. Place hand towels or wash cloths over wig and gently press out as much water as you can. Swicth wig from styrofoam head to canvass head. Use wide tooth comb, gently comb the wig. Air-dry wig over-night. Style dry wig. Use water in a spray bottle, dampen sections of wig and create curls using blow-dryer on gentle heat and a brush. Or, let it dry using velcro curlers. Or, if it's curly, scrunch it up after using 'product'. Use what you remember when you used to style your own hair.

Any recommendations for brand of shampoo/conditioner? Any specific one or ingredient(s) to stay away from? My sheitel macher told me u can ruin a sheiotel by using the wrong shampoo/ conditioner. I don't know if she's just trying to scare me away from doing it myself so she can make her $$.

Hi! Almost any shampoo or conditioner will do. (Quality products cost more $, and shaitel machers are frugal in this regard. Or, you'll get charged extra for 'deep-conditioning. To be fair though, it takes more time to let the wig 'sit' in conditioner for 10- 30 minutes extra, and the 'products' are expensive.) The important thing is how you apply the 'products'. Keep the moisturizer away from the cap. (After the wig is on the canvas head you can spray a little leave-in conditioner on the hair close to the cap and gently comb it through.) When shampooing, don't let the hairs go into and through the wefts/inside the cap. That's why you wash it on the styrofoam head. My philosophy is to be as self-reliant as possible; e.g. to be able to give yourself a manicure, but if you want to treat yourself you can pay someone else to do it.
