No wonder Freud claimed that all women are masochists.

I argue with your original premise. Women do the above to please their husbands? I say this is a false statement.
I got my ears pierced at age 13, wore high heels because I liked how they looked before I met my husband (and now that I am married I go for the comfort and lower heels), got waxed out of laziness, so I wouldn't have to shave. (Never a Brazilian eeeeeeeewwww! And I would say most men don't even know what a Brazilian is! I didn't until I joined Imamother!)
Even in the tznius threads many women asserted that they dress the way they do for themselves or "other women". So why DO women put themselves through painful procedures or the discomfort of certain fashions? |
I agree. All the stupid beautification rituals I do are for myself, not DH. He doesn't notice if my eyebrows aren't tweezed to perfection and definitely doesn't notice if I don't wear a girdle with certain dresses! The only thing he ever notices are unshaved legs - and he HATES shaving (his face) because his skin is so sensitive, but he also does it fairly regularly.

The shrinks call that "alienation". Being a stranger to your own person.

Because you love him, right?
What does that tell about HIS feelings that he can stand it? |
He does not ask me to do it. He knows it's painful for me and he told me I don't have to do it. But I still do it cuz I know how much he appreciates it.
