My hair has recently started to grow up on my lower abdomen. I am afraid it will soon cover my entire stomach.
Is it a normal thing to happen as a woman ages?
Can it happen from an hormone imbalance? (I am nursing a toddler.)
I want to remove it is it better to wax or shave?

hair on the abdomen and other typically male areas of hair growth could be a sign of PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome, a hormonal disorder.

Sorry lady, but it does happen to the best of us . As already mentioned, itmay be pcos, or thyroid issues. Don't shave, if it really really really bothers you, wax only a thin line where it most bothers you. Once you start you always have to maintain I regret starting. Good luck!

Good article on Hormones and Unwanted Hair (pssst - it's entirely possible it's totally normal)
Quote: | There is no sharp dividing line between normal and abnormal amounts of hair. Facial and body hair is a very personal matter and so a personal definition is appropriate: hair that is enough to make a woman afraid that it will show is too much. However this does not mean that a medical problem is present. A few hairs in the following locations are normal for a woman: outer corners of the upper lip, the chin, around the nipples, between the navel and pubic region and the tops of the thighs. If a woman has more than light growth of hair in these places or if there is wider coverage of face and body, then the condition of hirsutism can be said to be present. This degree of extra hair is reason for medical evaluation, especially if accompanied by irregular periods or weight problems. |

My sister had dark hair growing past the normal genital area that most women had and we all just thought it was this weird thing since she's blond, thin, and beautiful. Well it turns out when she was having trouble conceiving that she discovered she has PCOS. PCOS increases a women's risk for certain serious diseases so please don't ignore this. Find out why it's happening.
