Women perfectly made up on Shabbos and Yom Tov

To all those out there who are struggling with the Nisayon of make up on Shabbos I'd like to share my story.
When I first started putting on make up at age 16 I slowly taught myself how to keep on my make up all Shabbos. After about a year of trying I finally figured out how to keep my make up on perfectly so that it still looked dewy the next morning.
Fast forward to the year out of school when I started working. I was always tired and began to sleep really deeply on Shabbos. I was unable to keep my make up on as well anymore. At first I bought Shabbos make up and retouched things up in the morning. (I didn't realize this was not allowed.) It never looked as good as real make up. Slowly I began touching up my make up on Shabbos with real make up. It escalated to the point where I would wake up Shabbos morning- dash into the bathroom- wash off whatever make up was left- and totally reaply all of my make up on Shabbos morning.
Fast forward another few years. I got engaged. We were enthralled with each other. We got married. I was really worried for Shabbos Sheva Brachos. At the end dh left to Shul early and I had time to put on fresh make up before my mother showed up to walk me to the Sheva Brachos hall.
The next week I applied new make up Shabbos morning as well. Motzei Shabbos dh and I went out to eat. He was praising me and praising me telling me how special I am and how much he adores me. I told him that if he knew one of my flaws he would not be saying all that. He kept begging me to tell him what the "flaw" was. He said it couldn't be so bad.
I told him. He was floored. He was shaking. He was beside himself. How could I?
We argued about it all night. Dh felt like a loser because of my Aveira.
The next day he was so depressed he couldn't handle it. We were fighting like crazy.
We couldn't go on this way.
After many hours of arguments tears and deliberations we decided that we would accept Friday night invitations to eat out and that we would stay in all Shabbos day so that I wouldn't feel pressured to be Over on this Aveira.
We continued this way for months. It worked. I hated the idea of Shabbos make-up but eventually I got tired of hiding out in the house every Shabbos morning and afternoon. A little more than a year later I began using Shabbos make-up when necessary. (Once I knew that I didn't have the option to apply real make up on Shabbos I began sleeping a little more carefully. The make up stayed on a bit better and I didn't always have to apply Shabbos make up.) I wear hats a lot on Shabbos afternoon because they make you look pretty with just a little make up and can hide flaws.
It is still a struggle. But my husband is there for me.
You can do it. I know you can. I know the struggle. I still struggle. Let us do this together!

If you soak cloth, 2 things are possible: you might be washing the cloth, and you might wring it out. Using tissue face blotters (those of you who remember intercontinental airmail may recall "onionskin" paper that was very thin and transparent--these blotters are even thinner) is no different from blotting your greasy fingers on a paper napkin--less, really, because your fingers are likely to be much greasier than your face. You're not going to wash the blotters, and you can't wring them out (they're like writing paper, not like paper towels or napkins).

I have been asked many times what makes my lipstick stay on until I wash it off on motzei shabbos. the secret is that I put a long lasting base on my lips and then two coats of the mac longlasting lipstick on before shabbos and it almost always lasts. I also want to share that I used to sneak on mascara on shabbos ( I know its wrong) because I have almost invisible lashes without mascara but I took on NOT touching my eyes on shabbos so that it should be a zchus for a young woman my age in my community that is undergoing chemo and is reportedly losing her eyesight. when I heard that, I said I will bli neder never touch my eyes again even if its just a swab here or there. several times ive been tempted but have always persevered when I thought of this woman who my heart goes out for. it should be a zchus for her is all I hope for!

I didn't read all 10 pages because I didn't have the patience, but this is what I do:
I put on a full face of makeup erev shabbos, I use MAC for my eyeshadows and I use a cream eyeshadow base that really keeps it on, revlon colorstay eyeliner, and waterproof mascara. my lipstick never stays on past the meal anyway so I just deal with it!
Friday night--I wear glasses to sleep! I have a plastic junkyish pair and once we're--um, done, I put them on. It keeps the pillow from wiping off my eye makeup and I don't have to worry about having to sleep on my back all night (not that I even can at this point anyway). If you have good eye makeup it looks like your whole face is made up! The next morning I just put a thin layer of skin colored powder all over my face with a brush and thats it. Its not perfect but its something!

I said to my DH the rabbi, "You know, I didn't realize that so many women find it challenging not to put on makeup on Shaboos. Some are actually applying it on Shabbos, and others are doing all kinds of elaborate, uncomfortable things to make sure it stays on from Friday. We should do something about this."

DH said, "They don't need it. Why do women think they're ugly?"

Personally, I enjoy makeup because it's fun! But when we allow gashmiyus to become an obsession, we become addicts, and it's not fun anymore. We become slaves. Why are we punishing ourselves? Crying

Shabbos make up is loose powder oil free make up made specifically for Shabbos application. The name of the company is called Shabbat Reflections Cosmetics.

It can only be applied on a clean face. Each color needs its own brush. No mixing of colors are allowed.

Yeah but guess what? As Ruchel wrote, what did women do all along before there was officially hechschered shabbos makeup?
You learned the dinnim and acted accordingly.
There are a lot of loose powder makeup that are oilfree that are out on the market.
You learn how you are allowed to put it on.
You learn how you are allowed to put on loose powder blush and eyeshadow.
You know that you cant use cremes, mascara and lipstic.
Either you put on before, use sealants and all the stuff written here or on shabbos morning you skip those things and use a powder blush on your lips, and such.
there is a deah which states that using colored loose powder isn't a problem, those who keep to this can also use loose eyeshadow powder on their eyelashes and the rest .
End of problem.

Isramom, I was thinking the same thing as I was reading thru (some of) this thread. glad to see I'm not the only one who does not understand this obsession.

It bothers me to see women who are beautiful without makeup yet their faces are so caked up. Why arent u happy with how you look?
And I dont mean beautiful as in modellike, perfect features,etc... most women are pretty, it is just society which tells us 'If I am not drop dead gorgeous, I am not beautiful at all". When I see people who are not wearing makeup (both weekday and shabbos), I don't think anything less of them, or think that they are not 'pretty'. In fact, I find that that their inner beauty shines through so much more and I usually respect them.

This is not to say that I don't hold of makeup at all. There just has to be a limit. I think makeup is like anything good in life - When you use it too much, it loses its purpose and effect.

When ladies wear makeup in moderation it brings out their own beauty, however, when I see someone who definitely overdid it , I am sad to say but it loses its whole effect and makes her look like a made-up face as opposed to a beautiful face.

That being said, I do wear makeup but very infrequent; simchos, yomtov, hardly ever for shabbos. and I understand that it feels good to look pretty. however, I feel most comfortable in my own face. and no I am not a drop dead gorgeous lady. seriously. lucky for me my husband has similar sentiments (Actually even more). The few times I actually do wear makeup he cannot understand why I am 'painting' myself..

I dont have to do anything & my eyes look made. thank god I have gorgeous eyes.

the problem is my face. how can my base & blush stay on till shabbos morning?
