There are some women who I see in Shul regularly, who are perfectly and freshly made up- they look every Shabbos like they just had their faces made up professionally!!!!!
and are
1- NOT wearing Shabbat Makeup- because their foundation/other makeup is creamy/dewy and not the powdery gook that Shabbat make-up is (very very freshly applied creamy foundation and lipsticks).
2- NOT applying their makeup on Shabbos. They're way way too frum!
How are they getting their prefect makeup to last that long?

It's all in:
-the way you eat
-the way you sleep
And good application is helpful, but will do nothing without the above.

my conjecture:
95% of the women who look all perfectly coiffed put on makeup. the other 5% are lying.
dont know how else to put it. just saying it like it is.
anon becaue "dont shoot the messenger." just saying it like it is.
over the yrs I have spent hundreds of dollars on all kinds of makeup. from shabbos makeup (all ****, all of it, IMO), to maybelline to chanel and dior. and guess what. shabbos makeup never looks good. and guess what else? chanel long last, lasts 4 hours. dior waterproof mascara lasts 8 or 12. not 16 or 24. people cant put on makeup at 6 pm and look great at 11 am. unless they are reapplying said makeup every now and then and are sitting in a windless, heatless childless, clothesless, bedless environmnt the entire time. like at a photo shoot.

sorry, but B.S.
other than the mac and lorac and chanel long lasting lipsticks (so I agree on "the way you eat"), it s pretty impossible to have your makeup look as nice as it did the night before.
so guess what? I put on makeup.
I tried for years. unsuccessfully. sleeping on my back, sleeping on my side, sleeping on the couch. still, ran eyeliner, mascara all but gone, and ruined foundation.

Powder helps if you 'layer' the makeup. It'll help for the base & blush...I also have some cream for under the eyeshadow that lightens it & helps it stick...I like to use the 'paint' brush eyeliner, because it lasts really long & goes on very thin.
I find lipstick never stays on to long on me, but if I really watch then the rest of my makeup can last for shabbos morning if I have a simcha.

Balogna!
I am the amother who wrote about eating and sleeping. I forgot to add that skin type may be a factor as well.
I still remember a vacation I took several years ago with some girlfriends. As I applied my make-up, a friend asked me why I spend 30 minutes on the application. I told her that I wanted to make-up to last. She just didn't get it.
12 hours later, after trecking around Disney all day, we are sitting at a restaurant and eating dinner. She asks me how is your make-up still perfect? So I said don't you remember the conversation we had earlier this morning? Yes, going over your lips 10x with lipstick, after using consealer on them as a base, and filling in the entire lip area with lipliner DOES help.

it also depends on your skin and how oil it produces.
Also, keep cool. (in both senses of the term.)

It doesn't matter what position you are in when you sleep. If you sleep deeply, it won't work. Touching make-up in your sleep even for a minute, means that the make-up will slowly ruin. If your hand lays on your face, if you smush your head into the pillow even for a moment.

These women look stunningly freshly made up with creamy lipstick evenly all over the lips! I've tried everything as well, and nothing looks that perfect by the next day!

Maybe they smear mayo on their lips for a gloss.

I know.
And it's just not possible for some women.
And perfectly possible for others,

I do not apply makeup on Shabbos and most of my makeup usually stays on most of Shabbos. Some people's skin holds onto makeup better than others, especially if it's applied well. However, makeup that still looks dewy/glossy is unlikely from the night before. To be dan lekaf zechus though, maybe they have their non-jewish neighbor/cleaner, etc. apply it for them. Personally, I don't it's right to do that, but it's certainly better than doing it themselves.

My sister's looks dewy and glossy. Food never touches her lips. Nothing touches her skin,
I used to be this way. Then I started working and I started sleeping deeply. End of the glossy times

Very true in general. I remember in High school there was this gorgeous girl and her makeup and hair was perfect shabbos day at out Shabboton. I asked her how she did it. She said she lays on her back without moving and slightly opens her mouth so nothing smudges. I guess she had perfect skin to hold the makeup. I believe her completely. Some ppl have the genes and talent. I don't know I would rather sleep comfortably then worry about looking perfect.

I know exactly what you're talking about! Thank you for posting this. I was actually going to post something similar last week. Maybe I'm just being self-conscious, but I often feel like the main thoroughfare in my neighborhood is a fashion show. Their hair is perfect, their makeup is perfect, and many are in designer suits
I don't know if your post was more "I like it. How do I get my make up to stay?" or an overall commentary about how good many people's make up is, but my bubbe made an excellent point. Treat Shabbos as the day to look like you're NOT wearing makeup. Treat it as the day to have your hair up. Treat it as the day not to worry about dressing up and just wear a comfy, pretty robe. When I was younger, I tried the "lie back so the hair is perfect and put on the theatre-quality makeup so it lasts through Sat night" approach, but now, I love being natural and comfy on Shabbos.

Granted, there is some long-lasting makeup that will work on some women and not on others (my eye-makeup usually stays) but as many posters pointed out- not looking so fresh and dewy. Long-lasting lipstick does not look lush and moist... so I have the same question. Even sleeping on your back yada, yada will not get the makeup to look that fresh...
So what's the secret?
