Where do they come up with these things? |
On Shabbos ds said "this gefilte fish is very happy I am eating it."

My kids do that too. They are confused with food chicken and bird chicken... food fish and live fish.
They always ask, to clarify, that it's the food they are eating and not the animal.
So to make themselves feel secure that they're not really eating a live animal, they say, "The food chicken is saying, [in a thin voice]'Eeeeat me, eeeeat me!'"

My husband sometimes sleeps late and misses shachris so he ends up davening at home and my 16 month old daughter watches, so one time she took a bencher from the book case, walked over to the wall, opened the bencher and was shuckling and mumbling some words, it was so cute.

Even though I find DD doing the most hilarious things sometimes (making a shpritzing sound while she holds deoderant under her arm or yelling "oh, man!" when something bad happened (shes 22 months old). This one happened at my moms house.
My mother was serving eggs on shabbos & my brother points to the chopped liver & says " no whole wheat eggs for me!"

LOL on the whole-wheat eggs!
My kids got their first lesson in "where does meat come from?" yesterday. I wasn't sure if they "chapped" that chicken= chicken and fish= fish, so I asked my 3 yr old, "Where do meatballs come from?"
His answer: "From a tree."

my kids love those sugary cereals alot of you I am sure are wise not to give your kids...
My husband put some bran flakes into his bowl and my Schneur said
"Abba, are you eating boring flakes?"

My kids have been so funny lately, too bad I can't remember the things they've said. The only one that stands out in my mind is when my 6 yr old was eating dinner and I guess it was some kind of food that was hard for him to chew. With a sigh he turned to me and said: "My teeth are so junky!"
I was kind of stunned. I don't really label things around here as "junky" and couldn't imagine where he'd gotten that one from.
My 4 yr old said something last week that was good enough to submit to the Readers' Digest. A shame I didn't write it down.

Another funny thing that's been going around our house: "a mousand."
"A mousand" is what comes after "a thousand." It was the biggest number my kids could think up until I clued them in. They use it ALL the time:
"How many people did you see coming out of shul on R"H?"
Answer: A mousand.
"How many pizzas are you going to eat?"
Answer: A mousand.
It cracks me up, but at least at the same time they've learned that "a mousand is just silly, Mommy, right?" and that there is such thing as millions and billions which are much larger numbers.

DD to my mother as she is looking at a framed photo of dh & I at our L'chaim: "This is a picture of mommy and totty when they were little". True. In every sense of the word.

Oh, GR, that's funny about the made up numbers. My DD, 4, sticks the numbers "elventeen" and "eleventy" in ever so often. I hate to correct her b/c it's so cute! Recently she also became "clued in" that they're not real numbers, so she'll ask "that's not a real number, is it?" But I really hate to let it go, they're only little for so long...

DS (almost 3) gets the connection between food and animals but it doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest. A year ago we were reading an animal book Shabbos afternoon and he looked at me and pointed "Look, Ima, a chicken, just like we had for lunch!"
At the Rosh Hashana seuda, when we brought out the fish head, he was so excited: "Ima, Ima, that's the fishie's head! And that's his eye so he can see! And those are his teeth so he can eat the littler fishies!" And then he had no problem eating it, while poor squeamish DH couldn't take a single bite.
We had a picture on the wall of DS and me, just shoulders and up, and DS told me:
DS: That's a picture of me when I am bigger, after my upsherin, and I am all grown up.
Me: No, that's a picture of you when you were littler. We took that picture in the summer.
DS: No, Ima, I am BIGGER in that picture. Look, I am as big as you. My head is as high as your head.
Me: DS, I was holding you in my arms when we took that picture, that's why your head is so high.
DS: Really? Can you hold me in your arms like that again?
[I picked him up and took him to a mirror so he could see hwat we looked like]
DS: Oh. I thought that was a picture of me when I will be all bigger already but it is only a picture of me in your arms.

we went to a Vort tonight for a former babysitter of Schneur's...(6 year old)
When I told him that she was getting married, he looked serious. "Does that mean she can't marry me?"

When I was toilet training ds I kept asking him: where do u make? And he would answer: in the toilet. Once I was baking challos (which he loves to watch and help me make. I was on the phone with my mil and asked him all excited what I'm making, and as serious as it comes he answered; in toilet!

2 1/2 yo DS said "When I get bigger, I fart" (after hearing DH let a loud one rip).
And no, I did not teach him that word, though something tells me DH did.
