So look around for 1 or 2 things that you love, mabye to match a special outfit, and call it a day. Just don't buy a lot.

I've found some nice things in cheap stores. Try H&M, or ebay (where I managed to find a sterling silver takeoff on the Tiffany key for under $10, inlcuding shipping). Amortize it over its useful life. Eg, if you spend $15 on costume necklace, and wear it 30 times over the next year, it cost 50 cents a wearing. Moreover, it probably updated some of your other clothes, and thus saved you more money in purchasing new items than it cost itself.

I agree 100%
And if/when it breaks or gets lost---
We don't shed a tear!
So to summarize... costume is loads of fun, inexpensive and no anxiety when stuff happens--l

You can buy good fakes. Or the classics in "real", and the rest in fake.

Thumbs Up
Same with clothes. Spend on the classics that you plan on wearing for years, and but don't break the bank for trendy clothes which will only be worn one season.

There's someone in Flatbush who sells out of her home- all the latest styles, some look very real. She is very reasonable (Her name is Dassy Brown)

Also, for more elegant occasions, you can try a boro park store called uniquely yours- they have high quality fakes that look exactly like the real thing, but they are not cheap.

Uniquely Yours is almost the same price as real!
I second Dassy Brown's things. I have some of her stuff. Really nice and very reasonably piced.

There's Claires, and there's Kohl's. Haven''t been in the former for a while, so don't know how different they are. Also I love some of the stuff I've seen at Syms.
(I'm into costume jewelry, don't know if fashion intersects at all.)

I have a pair of matching's to every outfit. Wal-Mart, target... those are about $3.50 an amazing stuff, very tznius and classy. I found lots of nice things by Macy's, and mostly at street vendors outside of hospitals, or hospital gift shoppes.
