I thought we couldn't start till chatzos tomorrow but a little bird mentioned that since it is erev shabbos you can start tonight. that would be a huge help - all the stuff that needs to airdry will have time to dry!

My dh said only stuff you need for Shabbos before chatzos tomorrow (from tonight), but there seem to be different opinions, so ask your LOR.

you mean some say not even shabbos stuff tonight?

see shalhevet, I bet you there are lots of people (like me) who would not even know to ask. and I would have had colored or dirty tablecloths or still wet cloths on my shabbos table tomorrow night.

There is a point in posting halachic questions.

On the Israel forum some people said that's what they'd learned, but they might have had special circumstances (one is making a chassana, one has a son in the army) so I don't know.

On the other threads on the topic, I said I think the grey areas are problematic. This seems straightforward halacha - I'll have to ask dh for the source, but it's probably the MB knowing him. I still object to the threads asking if someone's HT is okay, or which night they should be going to the mikva. Confused

And, BTW, it's an absolute nightmare IMHO trying to sort out Shabbos clothes (includes anything you need such as pyjamas, underwear etc) for a large family. My neat laundry piles/ baskets have become anything but... And my dryer died in the middle of the first load. Right now (it's 1.30 am here) dh is repairing the laundry lines, so I can hang out the 3 loads I've already done.

I did a load tonight (not just Shabbos stuff). I had read about it here:

Halachos of the 3 weeks, the 9 days and Tisha B'Av has been moved to the top of the Archives. See DailyHalachaArchives link below.

Hilchos Tisha B'Av

1010. Although normally one may not do laundry, bathe, or take a haircut until after Chatzos on the tenth of Av, when Tisha B'Av falls on a Thursday one is permitted to do these things on Thursday night after nightfall L'Kovod Shabbos. Shulchan Aruch w/Mishnah Brurah 558:1 MB3, Piskei Tshuvos 558:4, S'U Machaze Eliyahu 86

1011. One may not listen to music, eat meat, or drink wine until after Chatzos on the tenth of Av, even if the tenth is Erev Shabbos. Shulchan Aruch w/Mishnah Brurah 558:1 MB2

I called my rav and he said I can wash things for shabbos tonight, and if I have space I can fill up the load with other stuff.

I didn't even unpack my dds suitcases from camp yet - they will go straight to the wash!

I am feeling extra stressed becasue we are going away sunday so I need to pack tomorrow as well, so this will be a huge help.

refuah shleima to your dryer...at least you can rely on sun to dry your clothes!

I refuse to trip over the piles of dirty laundry anymore, and I just can't go into Shabbos like that. To add insult to injury, oldest dd decided to be helpful the other day and while we were all out the other day she started tidying up the girls' room. This involved putting every item of clothing, including clean stuff in my already overstuffed washing baskets, causing everything to overflow, and leaving piles of unsorted rubbish all over the place. It was crazy. And then the cleaner didn't come this week either!

So I've just spent hours trying to do something with this crazy house, and now I'm about to do a bit of computer work. Yes I know it's 1:30 a.m already. Let's see how far I get ...

I'm not sure why washing weekday clothes is lkovod shabbos, unless its to get rid of unsightly laundry piles before shabbos.

shosh, my cleaners idea of cleaning up is putting every peice of clean clothing in the laundry basket. sometimes, to be creative, she puts dirty stuff back in the drawers.

Quite honestly, I didn't give it much thought. I read it yesterday and I remembered that it said you could do laundry tonight and I put in a load and put the white shirts in to soak so that I can wash them tomorrow. I have too many different colors (light colors, whites, dark colors) that I need for Shabbos and I don't think I can get it all done (with cooking ) tomorrow. I hope I don't fry in h*ll for this one. Starting after Chatzos would be impossible for me.

Well, good luck. Let's see. It's almost 2:00 am. So you get to sleep almost 4 hours!!!

this is the first time I called a rav for a while. I'm glad I did, because he gave a better answer then dh! (in my poll answer I said I call a rav a few times a year)

Maybe it's because some people hold it's assur to do laundry on Fridays?

The Rav is DL. Maybe he's not learned enough to give a lenient psak?

my DH (as per rov) said I can do washing tonight for shabbos. I've filled up the machine with other stuff though.

would be too stressed on shabbos if washing still lying about. so I started (and I have little kids).

I've done one load which is hanging up/dryer and another load in the machine now. going to wake up in the middle of the night hopefully to hang up (ironing lady agreed to do some stuff tomorrow so it all needs to by dry before she comes !!!)

happy washing!!

(oh and cooking and cleaning and childminding and packing............you get my point)

yes, choose your rav by the length and whiteness of his beard.

anyway, if I were you, I would put the load in ready, get up at 5.40 and press the button, and go back to sleep.

also you can cook tonight and do laundry tomorrow.

I beleive it's okay to wash in the morning and not wait for chatzos, but here in the bungalow colony we're allowed to start tonight being that it's a big rabbim using public laundry facilities and we each need to get a turn.
