| I felt bad that it was so hit-or-miss and not a real recipe. It's one of those things I just do, and don't think about, and sometimes it's better than other times, probably, but nobody notices around here.

If it doesn't come out I'll blame it on you and your instructions. If it does, I'll congratulate myself on figuring out what you meant. Either way, I can't lose.

I haven't even planned my menu yet and I shopped yesterday for the week. I didn't want to cook today so the house wouldn't smell like food all day on a fast day. I asked my kids what they feel like eating and they gave me a list of all the things I always make and they never eat, so there went that.
I'll figure it out, in time, I hope.

You all make me feel like such a glomp when it comes to Shabbos food. By me, everything is easy and simple. Perhaps you'd all think it's really boring in my house for Shabbos.
Typical menu:
Fri night
Homemade challos
Chicken soup
Chicken with garlic, dill, and potatoes
Shabbos day
cold schnitzel
vegetable salad
hummus
egg salad
homemade techina
Seudah shlishis
Leftover from previous meal
No dessert bc I'm too cheap and no fish course bc the kids won't sit at the table for long enough!

thanks so much!
every time my dh complains about imamother, I say you wouldn't be having these fancy meals if not for my inspiration from imamother! |
Lol! Will do a bit later. Tell him to call my dh, and the two can commiserate! |
Did you post these somewhere, OldYoung? I'd love to have them, too.

I (finally! ) posted it in another thread.
Here is the copied recipe, though-
Butternut Squash Soup (with Radiccio Topping)
3 lbs butternut squash
olive oil
2 extra large onions, chopped
1/8 to 1/4 c. chopped parsley (I use 2 T. flakes)
1 1/2 t. salt
4 1/2 c. water
1/4 t. nutmeg
black pepper
2 cloves garlic, crushed
Preheat oven to 375. Cut squash in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and bake cut-side down on a foil or parchment lined baking sheet. (I use a pam'ed aluminum pan.) Bake for 30 minutes (always takes longer for me- abt. 45 min.) or until tender. Scoop out the pulp into a bowl and set aside. Heat olive oil in a large pot over a medium heat. Add onions and parsley and saute about 15 minutes or until lightly browned, adding drops of water so it does not stick. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Partially cover, reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes. Puree until smooth.
This recipe continues with a sauteed radicchio topping that I usually skip because I never bothered checking to see if radicchhio has any insect infestation problems. For those who would like to try it anyway, here's the recipe-
olive oil
4-6 c. thinly sliced radicchio
1/4 t. salt
1/8 t. black pepper
1 T. balsamic vinegar
Heat olive oil in a non-stick cooking pan over a medium-high heat. Add radicchio, salt and black pepper. Saute 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from heat and drizzle with vinegar, tossing to coat. Sprinkle radicchio over each serving of soup.

scb88 - thanks for the explanation. Where do you get the Grünkern from? |
I used to actually order it from Germany! There's this online German grocery store. But Pomegranate in Flatbush carries it.
