I was just reading a thread about a poster who has trouble getting her child to sleep. Another poster wrote that she gives her child melatonin. Is melatonin safe for children? In what dose? I read online that there is not enough studies done in regular children to prove that it is safe. Anyone here ever gave it to their child and saw results? After how long? On whose advice?

Dr. Schulman reccomended me to give it to my child. Ask your pediatrician for dosage, or you can ask your health store salesman. Hatzlocha

I used Melatonin for my 1 year old for 1 year, after reading an article from Dr. Schulman.
I would not recommend that you use it. Firstly, the body gets used to it and you have to keep on slowly increasing the dosage. Also, Melatonin is a hormone, and they don't know yet what effect it can have later on in life, especially in females.
After increasing my child's calcium intake, and after having her diagnosed and treated for silent reflux, she is sleeping on her own B"H.
My own pediatrician only recommends using it for 10 days, and then weaning the child off of it (1 day on, 1 day off.)
This is just to help the child see how good they feel when they sleep properly, and hopefully their body will crave more rest once they got a taste of it.
Hatzlacha.
