Two boys, aged 9 and 10, who poured a bucket of water from the second floor window of the Cheider onto the ground below, thereby splattering several people with mud, including their teacher?

this is something the principal should handle. It's pretty serious. Kids shouldn't get away with a figurative"slap on the wrist" for something like this. Mad imo both parents should have to come down, have a meeting with principal, to come to an agreement about readmission, till then kids are out of school. jmo, but I think my boy's school has dealt this way with things.

I hope it wasn't your kids who did this, I wonder what I'd do if it was mine shock .

I'm supposedly the principal... One of the oddities of being on Shlichus... This is the Cheider for the Shluchim's kids.
The teacher called me today with the story. B"h it's not my kid, though it could have been... I'm reluctant to involve the parents, because there's one family where they tend to overreact. I'd rather deal with it within the Cheider. He said he did impress on them the severity of the deed, and that one of them started crying when he showed his mud-splattered pants, and he told them that on Monday he'll tell them what punishment they will get.

I'd have them fix what they did. Whatever that entails.

I dont think the should be punished. instread thier "punishment" I think should be something that can teach them a positive thing. for example, helping clean up the yeshiva every day for half hour after lunch or something else to show respect for the school. they can also go over the laws of derech eretz with the principal and have a test on it. not in a mean way, just in a way to show them they they have it in the to be respectful but maybe they need to learn the laws better and how we all make mistakes but they need to apologize and think of better ways of behaving next time. I think the principla should have a system with them over the next month or two to see if they are improving in derech eretz..... that I think will help teach them whats right and wrong/

I agree with happymom . alot of times when kids do things they are not thinking ahead of the consequences of their actions. unless they were being malicious in their intent you have a good opportunity to turn it into a learning experience not just for them but for all the boys.

I don't agree that it's the intention that always counts. Kids need to learn to be responsible for their actions, no matter what the intent was. Even when we hurt someone by mistake, we still apologize.

Oh, it certainly wasn't malicious. They meant it to be funny. They tried to make sure that it doesn't land on anyone, and didn't realize that as it landed on the ground it would splatter mud all around.

I think making them learn some rules of Derech Eretz is a great idea. I have a Seder Hanhagos Latalmid somewhere in my house, I hope I can find it.

an apology is definitly in order and learning or memorizeing the halachos is a great idea.
maybe they can also wash the teachers car?

What I thought had happened was that they intentionally spilled it onto the people below, including their Rebbe. But from the responses of other posters, I realized that that's not what happend, and they actually only spilled water on the ground. not malicious, just "vild". In that case, I agree with the other posters; my first reaction doesn't apply.
