For others, it may be a nickname for any name that contains "mal".

The last few years in hearing a ton of people calling their Malkas “mali” but I really think it’s a new thing… like I don’t think you’d see it amongst people even in their 20s.
The ironic thing to me is that my grandmother born in 1917 was Malka and went by Molly! Ahead of her time lol
