I'm not the best cook but I love to host. Pre prepped ingredients aren't cheap where I live. What are some easy crowd pleaser recipes that come out consistent for guests? What's your usual hosting menu?

Rice
Potato
Pasta
These are ingredients you should look for recipes with. Easy to make and cheap
Cabbage, beets, carrots, quinoa, and cucumber salads are delicious and a cheaper alternative to lettuce salads.
Making Moroccan fish with tilapia or sushi salad with kani can be cheap and easy alternatives to gefilte fish or salmon.
Zucchini soup can be a nice change from chicken.

Any meat or chicken recipe that can be cooked low and slow are almost fool proof and delicious.
I like using Chuck eye roast, by me it’s $12.99/lb, I don’t know if that fits into your budget. But chicken legs (bone in) with the right sauce is also delicious.
Gefilta fish is easy and a crowd pleaser
Soup can be cheap and fills everyone up, so you need less food for the main. Plus it can be made in big batches and frozen.
For dessert you can always glamorize a dunkin Heinz cake $.99 at Walmart
Simple Menu
Challah made from Rhodes dough
Gefilta fish
Dole classic salad lightly dressed with olive oil.
Chreyonaisse - chrein mix with Mayo and water down to be able to drissle on top
I plate this course, looks fancier.
Chicken noodle soup with some carrots and celery big dice. I usually make big batches of just bone broth and when I need I defrost, boil, add fresh diced veggies, simmer until veggies are soft.
chicken - Or- Chuck roast
Potato kugel
Stringbeans with tons of carmelized onion
Sometimes a vegetable kugel (carrot, zucchini)
Dunkin Heinz cake-
Cholent and leftover from dinner, for lunch
Truth be told I don’t make this menu any more but I did years ago when money was tight
