I’m so grossed out and don’t know how to make him stop! He started last week and now his fingers are in his mouth all day and I even caught him a few times with his toes in his mouth!! His nails are all chewed up they look awful. How can I get him to stop?

Do you have any concerns other than that you find it unattractive?
Lots of people bite their nails for many reasons, such as anxiety or needing something to chew. And lots of kids simply grow out of it too. If you have a suspicion about the root cause you can try addressing that. But ultimately they're not your nails and this is mostly a lesson in how there are things you can't control.

Well I want to make him stop. It’s so unhygienic. Any immas out there successfully got their young child to stop biting nails?

I don't think it's a big deal, but we are each entitled to our own mishigas.
Is he old enough to understand positive reinforcement?
Give him a sticker/high five/hug/chocolate chip everytime you catch him not biting his nails (even for 30 seconds)
Encourage him to tell you when he wanted to bite, but kept his nails out of his mouth. Celebrate his self control.
Don't give any negative reinforcement. Not even a comment or a look of disgust.

Cut his nails short once or twice a week.
Give him something else to chew on (they make chewy toys and necklaces for kids).
Get him fidget type toys and hand them to him before a situation where he’s likely to bite his nails (on the couch, in bed, in the car etc).
