Dh is now learning full time with a boy and the only time he can take off is chanuka. We both desperately need a vacation and have planned one for chanukah. However, I do feel weird bout going away on Chanukah. It's a real homey time to me.
What do u think?
p.s. We''re going to Niagra IYH (we did it winter 2 yrs ago and it was amazing BH!)

that's a real family chanuka vacation. it's not like you are leaving kids by aunts and gramparents while everyone is having family chanuka parties. you are having a beautiful chanuka party with your close family. I think it's great.
enjoy every minute.

It also sounds very expensive. 6 days away?
Wouldn't you rather just get cleaning help and take out food and enjoy your everyday life a little more?

I like your practical style, moose. we did that with all the kids, restaurants, sightseeing-no hotel/travel expense

she wasn't asking about the price, that not what her mixed feelings are all about.

It's actually very cheap. We're driving Tues night IYH and staying in a Howard johnson for $34 a night from Tues nt to Fri afternoon (total: 70+tax)then staying in another motel ($24 a nt- one nt)in buffalo (or in a chabad house) for Shabbos and driving back motzei shabbos getting back Sun morning IYH. Last time we flew which was nice (and only $90 a ticket!) but this time with a baby, it's easier to drive (plus with xmas the plane tickets are more expensive!)And I love the driving time with dh.
I'm getting excited!!!

tues nt. wed. nt. thurs. nt - that's three nights, times $34 = $102 not $70

GO GO GO!!
iyh, as your family grows, you won't be able to travel as much. also, you're taking your family-your baby and husband-with you. you can stop at the menorah lighting in Niagara, Buffalo, Toronto and it will feel like chanukah, but a new experience.
have a great trip.

Where would you light the Menorah- do hotels/motels allow lighting in your room?

She loves the car BH and we do plan on making quick stops. We're not in a rush.
