Posting as a nurse. That’s bizarre, it’s part of the job description. Wearing proper PPE should protect her. I agree with you if she is too afraid to to the job properly she should work somewhere else where she won’t be exposed to infectious diseases.
As an aside, it is normal in the places I have worked for nurses with a good reason (pregnant, newborn at home etc) to request accommodations such as not being given a covid patient. However it makes no sense to see such patients but not assess and treat thoroughly because of fear of infection.

I have had many doctors who would examine my vitals from a distance while I was hospitalized for covid (even this year), not just back in 2020. I literally had to ask them to check me.
