He is in beis medresh, almost old enough to get married. He should be able to organize a phone himself, ask his friends what the yeshiva accepts, etc

We can still take care of our kids regardless their age - sure he’s capable asking too
We still ask mothers for help advice as moms raising kids

We prefer a phone that doesn’t need to be tagged. Are there any phones out there that are talk and text only?

You can set up tello to only have talk and text. We have this on a kosher phone.
