Nightshades cause inflammation, cruciferous is for fodmap diet. Neither is specific to thyroid unless you're on a diet for it

I was told that consuming huge quantities of cruciferous vegetables might theoretically pose an issue for hypothyroidism but not to bother avoiding them because normal quantities were fine and beneficial.

If you eat raw then yes.

Quoting from "Thyroid power" by Ridha Arem:
" Avoid eating regularly high amounts of raw foods containing goitrogens.... Cooking usually neutralizes goitrogens".

So these vegetables are fine in a soup (he begs you for a soup! Omg!)

He lists:
Turnips, cabbage, mustard greens, soybeans, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts, radishes, Peanuts, pine nuts, peaches, apricots, strawberries, millet.

yes. imagine.
he gets upset that I only make chicken soup which everyone else loves (and don't like veg soup)

I make onion, squash, carrot, turnip, kohlrabi ,celeryroot and parsley root cut up in small pieces - sautee then blend half for thicker texture the rest is pieces which he loves.(no pieces in soup=tantrum)

any other soup ideas?

don't want to use starchy veg like peas, butternut squash - I lkie soup to be clean vegetable only
starchy can be for side dishes...

I typically use onion, carrot, parsnip, celery, squash, zucchini, tomato and mushrooms (all diced) with fresh herbs. I add beans and a little barley or rice if I want to make it a complete meal.

Not much, but zucchini is green and I use the yellow crookneck squash. So taste wise could probably just chose one or the other but I like the variety in color.
