want to know why my starter has water on top at one point after first feeding.
What m I doing wrong?

Just copied from Google because it explains it better than I would lol.. But this is the reason
Hooch" is the liquid that collects on the top of your starter when it hasn't been fed in awhile. This liquid is the alcohol given off as wild yeast ferments. The presence of hooch isn't a sign that your starter is in danger. However, it does indicate that your starter is hungry and needs to be fed.

Maybe you are adding too much water and not mixing well?
Hard to tell u exactly without seeing and without knowing the history and what you are doing..

that's hooch. mix it into your starter. it happens when your starter is hungry. feed it!

What is your recipe? There are a million factors to take into account
How much water? How much flour?
What kind of water? What kind of flour?
How long do wait between feedings?
What environment are you keeping it in?
How long have you had it so far?

Will try, dont know why it happens after just a few hrs.
Does it matter if the container is plastic or does it have to be a glass jar?

It doesn't matter if the container is glass or plastic. Just needs to be lightly covered to allow air to escape.
