How do you handle guests that are blunt and tell you things you don't need to hear like- "You can use a new couch, and make sure it's a practical color next time!" I love having company but I'm not interested in those kind of comments.

Sometimes the best response is a humorous one. You can say something like "You're right, we're currently accepting interviews for sponsors" or something like that.
Or else just nod and say OK and then ignore the advice.

similar to peach - you can say, "Is that an offer to buy me one? Great! Thanks so much!"

LOL..............I know jussssssssssssssst how you feel. this happened to me on sunday. so the guest throws a few good zingers my way, and im sitting there thinking......
lord have mercy, to do this someone has GOT to be nuts.
so I had an option, argue with said crazy lady, or go all therapist on her, and simply make with the coments like...
oh I can see how that might bother you..... or.......aha, really? or ...you dont say....
I sort of let her say all those disparaging things until she ran out of steam, there was a lull, and then I changed the subject.
and NO I will not be spending any more time with said guest.

I would handle this guest by showing her the HANDLE to the door!

The only guest who says things like that to me is my mil. Unfortunately, I've developed a bad habit of sometimes seeing my house through her eyes - especially shortly before/after she's here, so I hear the criticism even when she doesn't say it. But sometimes my predictions are right on target!
