What's special about this combination? I expected to find unique ingredients that help you fast. I'll probably be having all of the ingredients in some form before the fast - does it make a difference?
Personally, eating watermelon or a fruit salad before the fast helps me most.

I believe Powerade should also have Potassium Chloride (that's the salt for people who can't have regular salt with sodium).
Potassium is another one of those important electrolytes that you lose while fasting.

This is a great idea! I hate drinking all the artificial ingredients in powerade but it really helps me fast.

Why is this better than plain water? Sugar and salt I get plenty of (too much of both, actually). Is there a reason I should drink more of it?

I tried the first link and it was too strange for me, something about watered down sugar salt and baking soda was just weird, but I made the 2nd one and its really not that bad. I'm sipping it now.

eating salt and sugar are very different then drinking a balanced electrolyte drink. this drink is specifically made to hydrate your cells very well and then your cells will use this up during the long fast. in fact I would recommend you lower your sugar and salt intake as food (eg: pickles and cake), and instead get it from this drink. eat lots of proteins and carbs together for a capsule of slow releasing sugar over the fast.
there are many many recipes for electrolyte drinks. google and find one that you like for yourself. I like water, oj, liquid chloraphyll, high mineral sea salt, splash of fresh lemon...

since it was a little odd plain I made a smoothie with watermelon and a handful of strawberries and as the liquid I used the sports drink.
