I know there are a lot of threads on these - but I can't think of anything to get for our 5 year anniversary:
Some stuff about DH, and stuff he already has:
1. Spends a lot of time in the car (has a GPS, IPOD loaded with daf yomi, lots of CDs, bluetooth, car starter)
2. Learns Daf Yomi very seriously (has IPOD loaded with daf yomi)
3. Likes a good beer or drink every so often (has nice shot glasses, bottle opener on the wall, we had kashrus issues with a beer making kit once and had to return it - so that is out)
4. Likes collecting tools and fixing things (has every tool known to man - including a brand new super duper drill, saw, table saw, flashlight, 3 different types of ladders, toilet snake [OK, thats not really a present], a few ratchet, wrench and screwdriver sets, etc)
5. He gets up very early in the monring (has a few different types of alarm clocks, and a bike to use when the streets are empty)
6. He doesn't like cologne or anything smelly.
7. I'm due around our wedding anniversary so it can't be anything that requires too much action.
8. His mother just bought him a wallet and bathrobe so those are out. He does need a new sweater, but I don't really think clothes are a gift.
It could be from $1 and up. I just want it to be something that he can use and will enjoy. (one of my best presents was the bottle opener on the wall, its a great conversation starter, he enjoys it, and it was only $8). I'm just drawing a blank now, and I would like it to be something nice. Any ideas are appreciated. TIA

I have no clue what he is getting me or if he is getting me. In the past after I had a baby he got me something so it could be he'll wait for that and combine the 2 or not get something at all. But regardless I want to get him something good for him - even if it doesn't match up to, or is larger then what he gets me (if he does)

Just like cologne is out - anything touchy, feely is out. A friend once mentioned she was getting her dh a hot stone message and you could see dh cringe at the stop. He's not into those things at all.
He has no patience for games, we bought scrabble a while back and have not opened it yet. Anything that requires sitting still for any length of time is out, watching a movie for him is painful.

If he isn't getting you anything, it might be uncomfortable for only one gift to be exchanged.

I bought DH a silver money clip from Tiffany's that he loved, but your DH needs to be a certain type to appreciate it.
What about fancy beer mugs?

UNREAL! That could've been me writing that post! I'm drawing as big a blank as you and everythng you wrote fits, down to the 5th anniversary with a baby due IY"H around then (except the needing a sweater part)
I've almost decided to just go with his favorite dinner, a nice card- in our case that would mean a funny card, and then a nice evening.....

I got this for our last anniversary:
It's VERY practical and looks nice too--we got the same color as our bedroom furniture and it looks really nice on the nightstand.

In general, I love brookstone for gift ideas! I can always find something for anyone!

If it doesnt have to be expensive, why don't u go into the card store, get a nice anniversary card with one of those small books '100 good reasons why we are together...' something like that.
my dh just gave it to me for my 5th anniversary, I thought it was so sweet.
believe me, it meant more to me than any expensive gift would.
Happy Anniversary!

OP here - Thanks for the good ideas - I think I'll check out brookstone a little.
One more thing - he loves grilling - not fancy grilling - just slap the meat on the grill, dump some BBQ sauce and wait for it to be done, type of grilling. I've tried finding something to work with that - but he really doesn't need/want a fancy set of tools - so I'd love to think of a different idea for that.

I actaully got him something like that for his B-day a few years ago. It was a clothing valet (I think that is what it is called) that has a charging section on top - it is great for all of his gadgets.

I checked out Brookstone and I got some grilling ideas:

I was also thinking, as a lot less practical gift, a metal piece that imprints initials in meat - like you stick it in a steak and it leaves your initials there - but that is really not practical.
Anyone have either?

I went to Brookstone store and they didn't have in stock what I wanted.
Now I'm thinking a portable car charger/tire inflater. I'm thinking Sears may sell it (too bad I was at the mall today and didn't think of it then)

Thanks but his car really is his office. And in his actual office, he doesn't want anything personal because of the type of crowd he works with, plus he is barely there during the day. And he is old fashioned about work, no laptop, lots of papers in manila folders, spread over his back seat.
And he wears cotton pants that I just throw in the wash and dryer and fold back into his drawer. I can't imagine him using the pants press - but thanks for the ideas. I appreciate them.
