My sheital is starting to look more orange. It is not a good quality sheital so I am nervous to dye it. Its a shaina sheital but I want it to be more of a dark brown colour. I want to try dying it myself because I useto dye my hair all the time. It cant be that hard I think? Any thoughts or tips? Colour or brand for a nice warm brown colour?

I dye my shaina sheital all the time. (my sheital macher) sister does it for me.
But I buy the dye and I have seen her do it.
basically I buy two boxes of hair dye in the drug store- because my sheital is very long I need two boxes of dye, for a short-medium length I think one would be enough I am trying to remember the name I think it's clairol or one of the main hair dyes, I can't remember I use a brown color. Follow directions, and try not to get it on the part.
If you have never dyed your own hair before it can be a bit tricky. But my sheina always takes the dye well. If I go past the drug store today I will get the name of the hair dye for you.

As you might be able to tell from my screen name, I dye shaitels professionally (about 2500 wigs under my belt currently).

Here's some of my advice:

Leave the darkest brown on the shelf unless you want your wig to look like a witch. Since I live in E"Y, I am not familiar with the American products. I use the professional stuff which is imported from Europe. But I know my numbers--the companies are basically the same in numbers. If you need help with picking your color, PM me & I'll try to help.

I would advise you to stay away from Wella (junk from experience) and use L'oreal. "Because I'm worth it" (and so is my at least $350 and up to $2,000+ shaitel!). Garnier is a good name brand in general, but again, I'm not familiar with the dyes. Also, if you are not using at least 1 1/2 packages of dye, you haven't covered it properly. The reason is that shaitels typically have a lot more hair than we have on our heads.

I'm happy to help with any more questions.

L'oreal or Clairol- ammonia free "medium ash brown" is the color to buy for dark brown shaitels. It's a very pretty color. Ash takes away the redness.
Follow directions it comes with. Dont leave on longer than they say-it can make the hair fall out. Believe it or not I've done it myself and saved approx. $100. If I can do it anyone can.

I just dyed my sheitel yesterday it came out great I used a very dark brown but I bought the permanent dye that washes out in 8-10 washes wich is a lot for a sheitel so eventhough its a bit too dark I know itll fade it cost me $4 in a buety supply store the lady gave me directions and I am so glad I had the guts to do it. I think it looks fantastic Smile

I won't say I told you so! Crying
There is something called dye remover. I don't know where you live, but I can do it for you if you are in E"Y. If not, try going to the beauty supply store to ask for it. It's not cheap, but it can do it for you. It will not be in the drugstore.
Of course, then you might have to redye the whole thing again, depending how well it works.

Keep me posted on what happens!

Exclamation PS I know a very worthy organization that takes used shaitels and sells them to benefit hachnasas kallah!
Seriously, PM me if you want more info on dyeing.

Okay so I am wearing it right now and wore it today and didnt get anyone running away from me so I guess I dont look too much like a witch and I am getting useto this witchy look. :)!!!. Its really not "that dark" I just feel like its dark for me because my hair is a medium brown and if I put some highlights in I think it would look really nice. Should I just quit now? Has anyone tried doing there own highlights? Any advice or am I just taking this too far?
THANKS FOR ALL OF THE ADVICE :)!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, you should stop. If you don't know what could go wrong with highlights, you are about to find out!! DON'T DO IT YOURSELF!!! Leave it to professionals.
