Got a phone call from 9 year old DSs school today about his behaviour.
Apparently, he forgot his sports clothes (he can't participate in sports at the moment anyway due to a medical issue) and so was told by this sports teacher to stay behind during lunch and write an essay entitled something on the lines of “Sport In This School ".
Being DS he wrote an essay somewhere along the lines of “How this time could be better sent if I hadn't been given this stupid essay"
I'm not really sure how to deal with him. First of all this whole "essay business" seems a bit extreme to me for forgetting sports clothes... especially as he can not participate anyway.
I have however, been called by the school about his behaviour on other occasions. It seems that if he is accused of doing anything wrong and he disagrees he will simply argue his point, digging himself into a deeper hole.
At home you would never think he had the ability to misbehave!
Any advice on how to deal with this?

He sounds like he has a strong sense of justice and has a good self confidence to stand up for what he feels is right even to adults. Now he just has to understand that even when the school is wrong there are times to stand up and others to let them be wrong without correcting them.
