My 6 year old wont go to sleep. Cant go to sleep. I put her into bed, read a book, say shma, give her a cup of water. then she just lies there. And just lies there - sometimes up to 3-4 hours, without falling asleep. She says " I want to go to sleep so I wont be tired in the morning but my stupid body wont let me"... and she is tired in the morning - she doesnt sleep at all during the day, so I dont know how she isnt falling down by 6 or 7 pm! I have tried warm baths, warm milk, etc, at my wits end since school is starting and I dont know how she will manage with a sleep deficit!! Do they have sleeping pills for kids??? HELP!!

People say Melatonin (sp?) works to help kids relax. I don't think it's medicated. It's some sort of herbal thing. Do a search here. There was a thread a while back.

Could she be anxious about something?

I was a little older, but I had kids picking on me in school for years, and one of the effects was that I had a hard time falling asleep.

It sounds like anxiety. Also, I recently discovered that claritin for seasonal allergies has something in it which they label "NON DROWSY" but it causes insomnia.

I second Melatonim. Its a natural pill that calm the body. I have 2 kids that take up to two hours to fall asleep. Melatonim works WONDERS. 10 minutes after taking it, they are sound asleep. Good luck with finding a solution.
