My friend who is very frum recently told me that she has a long sheitel that she wears in the house only for her DH, and she buys for her kallah(s) as well for them to wear at home with their dh. Anyone else do this?

No, its not a bedroom sheitel at all. It is worn around the house instead of a snood at all times, nidda or not.

And I am thinking the same thing. I know someone totally not chassidish that the husband wants her to go outside with a tichel only so she wears a sheitel at home.

if she must be tznius like outside, why wear a longer sheitel than she would outside? I would think just uncovering your hair is less expensive than buying a long sheitel just for inside the house!

dont you see the greatness in that? She doesn't wear a long shaitel outside, even though it is much nicer, because of tznius. But with her husband, she is willing to spend the $ (and possibly discomfort) of having a shaitel to wear JUST FOR HIM.
How may of us like to put on a nice shaitel when we go out and rip it off right when we come home? I'm sure there is a lot to learn from this woman's act. Just read in between the lines.

The whole idea of covering our hair is that we are covering our beauty which should only be seen by dh and not by other men. Why cover it up for dh? Are there really opinions that say that a husband cannot see his wife's hair?

Lizard it's disturbing to me. If the sheitel is really s-xier than the hair I'm not sure it should be worn outside at all. Btw I don't think it is, it's fake and not HER hair...
Yes Imashel there are such opinions and I respect them. But these women do NOT "twist" the standards by trying to have a s-xy sheitel.

Convert here....
So I want a long sheitel to wear outside, right now mine is about 2 inches longer than my shoulders. I wanted like a 25 inch sheitel for a long time but is it not tznius? I have not discussed this with DH or my local Rav, just something I'm considering for the colder winter months and due to the fact I am not so skinny and the short hair seems to be out of proportion.

You need to ask that to someone in your community who knows you.

Not true in mine either. But again, in my community, you are allowed to show your hair to your husband. If hair is for some reason not tzniusdik to show to a husband, then for sure you should be the type with a modest sheitel.
