ds chapped the toilet concept after about 2 days of training. Every morning as we put on his underpants (and I give him the choice of a diaper, but he always prefers the underpants) he says "no make on the floor, only in the toilet". the problem is, he refuses to go until he's held it in the absolute longest he can, and sometimes wont go all day! he's a very clean child in general and he has not had an accident since the first week of training. I'm still waiting for my pediatrician to call me back, but has anyone ever experienced this?
Today I took off his diaper at 830 am, and put him to bed at 6pm, and although I put him on the toilet a few times during the day, he hadnt gone the whole day! Everyone I ask says not to go back to diapers, he's obviously physically capable to be trained if he can hold it all day, but its making me nervous. Can it be some kids have ultra large bladders?

Twizzlers, try giving him tons and tons to drink. Even though he knows what to do, he obviously doesn't feel safe doing it in the toilet yet.
Give him a lot to drink and bring him to the bathroom and make a nice, big deal about it when he makes.

oh that's hard if he doesn't like to drink. Would he go for drinking from a water bottle or with a crazy straw or (if you let) something sweet and summery like lemonade or powerade?
sounds like you're doing everything right, but yeah, I would try to find other ways to make him go. My gut says its not healthy to hold in your pee all day. I can't tell you why, though. Keep trying. Something will work.
Good luck.

phew! the pediatrician finally called me back. He said just like cookielady, stubborn kid, LOL
the good part is, he doesnt think he'd get a UTI over it, and if he ch'v did, he'd have fever, pain when urinating, and it would smell bad, so I'd be able to tell. he didnt see any reason to go back to diapers.
ok, we're sticking to it!
thanks for all your responses!
