Hi,
I'm sending my son to overnight camp for the very first time. I was wondering if anyone had any valuable/must know tips for me.
Thanks!!!

Hi!
More important than all the physical items you need to send your child to camp with, I would make sure to have the "before-camp-talk" that every child needs.
In specific, I am referring to making your child fully understand that NOBODY, camper, counselor, or anyone in between or higher up, has the right to touch him or make him do anything inappropriate and uncomfortable. Make him FULLY understand that you will protect him and that he MUST tell you should any situation arise. You cannot overstress these points, and no, don't feel uncomfortable talking to him like this.
On a healthier and more upbeat note, just don't send him with the best of what he owns. Send an old Shabbos suit, his old t-shirts, etc. Anything you will be very upset to lose should not be sent. Period.
Good luck!

I definitely agree with familyfirst.
Also, the first 2 or 3 years I went to camp, my mother mailed me a postcard a few days before I left so on the first day (or second day) of camp I already had mail! It said something like, "We miss you already, I hope you're having a good time..."
I remember being excited to have mail--even though it didn't have much news--especially while adjusting to being away from home for so long for the first time.....
