Posting for a friend whose big 5-0 is coming up and fam wants to give special lasting gift for about $120--something she can look at when she's 80 and say "the fam gave that to me for my 50th." She already has more jewelry, photo albums, electronic gizmos, leichter and silver than she can ever use, plus she's Ms. Organization so all her jewelry, photos, documents etc. are already framed, organized, labeled, yadda yadda.
Put on those creative thinking caps, ladies!

For my inlaws 30th anniversary - I got all their kids to the park and had a photographer come down and take family portraits. The actual fee for the photo shoot would be 150-250 depending on location. She can then choose to blow-up and frame whichever photo she sees fit, and pay for it on her own.
Second idea is maker her a scrap-book. Let each sibling, grandparent, child and spouse make one page. With photos and a nice letter.

Similar to traveler idea (great idea;)is a video put together by the family. Each member can submit pictures, memories, facts about her life for a professional to put to music. They can compose poems/song about her all put to the video montage. Each member can say something to her about her on the video....you get the idea.

You didn't!!!!! You actually posted this thread, I don't believe it...
OK ladies so keep thinking as I really have no idea what I want. But no pictures, we have enough of the family up on the walls and nothing that runs on electricity like digital frames etc....and I really have everything I want or need but the family is beginning to bug me about what I want so...keep the ideas coming and thank you Louche!

We did this for my mom's 50th-- we made it in the style of an A&E Biography with pictures and interviews from her family and friends that told the story of her life. I made it myself on my home computer. We showed it at a small party we made for her and she LOVED it. (She also didn't need any "things")

If you really do have everything, and don't want sentimental things like pictures, how about just being content with a nice card or dinner from your children? It's no fun if you gotta work so hard and go crazy just to think of a gift to get.

A new mezzuzah or washing cup that you can enjoy regularly.
A family tree, starting with your parents and going down. This will be from them to you, and your gift to generations to come.
A simple kiddush cup, engraved with the names of your family.

That's a great idea. Many years ago my parents had one made for my grandparents 50th anniversary. They are no longer living and my parents have it hanging in their home. It is a beautiful thing to have.

Thanks for the ideas. A mezuza is nice but not a birthday present nor is a washing cup around here.
Family tree - a cousin of mine made one for everyone going back seven generations - he put over 500 people on it! And all the kids have a copy, so that's not something new around here, sorry.
Dinner - of course we will all go out for dinner but the family want to give me something that lasts.. In previous years they got me either body lotion or perfume which I always like. But this year they want something that won't get used up.
