Depends how much they drank and how long it was since they made. I ask not less then an hour or two.

Another question: How long do they have to sit on the potty for?

I let them sit 10-15 min, get up stretch, keep stuffing with water or diluted fluids, and like ten-fifteen minutes later it's back on potty. This way they feel the need to make and learn the deed fast.

5-10-20 minutes? the poor child! do you like being asked the same question every five minutes? give the kid at least 40 minutes! murphy's law says they'll end up making on the floor three minutes after you've asked them anyway.

are we there yet ?!?!?!
never ask them - tell them & take them at intervals that make common sense
when they awake
before and after eating
halfway between when he awakes and when he eats lunch - same for between lunch & dinner
before they go to sleep (nap or night)
and during play remind them cause they get lost in space
before you leave the house - when you arrive
within time their body will synchronize with the logic of when they need the potty

they tell me.
and if they can't or don't then they are not ready to be trained...
you asking them every 5 min. is just training you.

I take dd when she wakes up then about every hour after that, she sits 2-5 minutes unless she chooses not to come off then she can sit as long as she likes.

I asked ds maybe once an hour and took him to the toilet/potty 5-15 minutes after drinking and eating. I asked right after drinking as well.
