I had a baby girl on November 16th. Since then every shabbos someone in our immediate family has a conflict. At this point our choices are shabbos chanukah December 27th or January 11th. I would like the kiddush to be closer to when she was born. Do you think Shabbos Chanukah is a good or bad shabbos to make a kiddush?

I can't think of why it would be a bad time--unless you're concerned about people being away because it is also a legal holiday weekend??

I think it's a bad time because people might be away or have guests. Anyone here going away or having guests that would prevent them from going to a kiddush?
In addition, my parents were supposed to have us and siblings over that shabbos. They said we could do it a different week instead. It's hard for me to tell if they mind a little. I think it's nice to have a kiddush on Chanukah, but not if it messes up the shabbos by my parents. I'm trying to do the right thing.

Why can't you make the kiddush while you are at your parents? Isn't the kiddush going to be in shul?? Either way, any mother with a baby can't go to the kiddush but if there are a few families together, they could take turns watching the kids and going...

Thanks Avimom. It seems that some people we know are going away shabbos chanukah so it will be 2 weeks after. The plan is for the men to be in shul and have the kiddush for the women in our house. This will be the first time I go to my daughter's kiddush.
