the high back might make the kid feel more secure, but it might also make it harder to get into the chair. Of course it's not necessary, otherwise they wouldn't make a model without it. BTW, from experience, models with the "splash guard" in front are harder to get into and out of and sometimes catch the organ in question in a painful manner. Get one without--having to clean up a few potty splashes is a lot better than having to tend to a scraped organ.

those look so uncomfortable ...
I had the cutest little potty that looked like a toilet - lid & all ...
and I think the back is important when they need to relax ...

I dont like the baby bjorn potty at all. the seating is very hard. I like the graco or the primo potty much better.

I wouldn't use the second potty because there is no bucket to take out for cleaning. I personally bought a toilet insert called the cushie tushie & a step stool to help dd reach the toilet. I never had to clean out a single bucket. it was great.

lol. then I recommend the one with the back. save yourself having ot clean the entire potty, everytime it is used. baby bargains rates the baby bjorn potty as one of the best ones on the market.

ours was a no-name model that just looked like a miniature toilet, with a lid that came down, and a pot underneath that you slid out to empty. washing it was no big deal, and when we went on road trips, we'd put a plastic bag inside the pot for those few occasions when someone had to go and the next rest area was in 24 miles. with the bag in the pot, the kid wasn't sitting on the bag and the bag didn't stick to his rear end. Frankly, there were times I'd have used it myself if my rear end would have fit.

I have the Graco one that Mama Bear gives the link to. I am very happy with it. It is suitable for any size child. It has handles for the child to hold onto which they love. Easy bucket to clean. The best is the removable cushion part which also fits the reg toilet so when they graduate from the potty but are not ready for the big toilet you can use this as an insert. (It's like the cushie tushie that chaylizi mentioned.) And since it has a lid it get's used as a stepstool (to reach the reg toilet when they're ready or just for brushing teeth...). The only part that I wasn't so happy with was the removable deflector which falls off very easily. I just taught my son to tuck "it" in as he would anyway on a reg toilet.
